A city without trams

Trams were shut down in Gliwice in 2009 and never came back. All local demand therefore falls to buses and taxis — there is no third option to take your passenger away. In the 2024 ranking of driver-friendly Polish cities (Oponeo/Yanosik) Gliwice came second, partly on an average speed of 51 km/h outside the centre.

The university and the plants

The Silesian University of Technology, whose main campus is here, teaches over 15,000 people. The second pillar of demand is shift work: Opel Manufacturing Poland and NGK Ceramics on ul. Adama Opla, Bumar-Łabędy on ul. Toszecka, Huta Łabędy and the Sośnica mine on ul. Pszczyńska.
